懷孕37周的復興區31歲羅姓孕婦，29日凌晨突然腹痛、下體出血，以為即將臨盆，由於山區無醫療院所接生，警消獲報後，出動巡邏車開道護送、救護車接力救援，歷經2小時在颱風夜裡疾駛，羅婦最後被送到約50公里外的大溪診所，平安待產。
警方說，羅婦家境貧寒，懷孕37周大腹便便，回到復興區沙崙子部落娘家待產。不料昨凌晨4時許，杜鵑颱風風雨仍大，她突然感到腹痛、下體流血，從睡夢中驚醒，直覺就要生產，因無汽車等交通工具，只好求助警方。
大溪警分局三光所獲報後，除派遣巡邏車為巴陵消防分隊救護車開道外，只要遇到落石、倒樹等障礙，就會下車徒手搬運，確保救護車能夠下山通行。
由於巴陵分隊前晚送1名胸痛男子送醫時，泡水拋錨無法使用。巴陵分隊為避免山區救護能量不足，通知山下的復興消防分隊，於比亞外部落附近接手送醫。
消防隊員黃庚偉說，雖然當時風雨漸小，但台7線道仍有積水、倒樹、落石等情形，視線又不好，救護車整路左閃右閃，路況險峻，他深怕下不了山，孕婦跟孩子會有危險，好在最後成功抵達診所，孕婦平安待產，他事後回想餘悸猶存說，「救人是天職，再危險都義不容辭」。
